Ancient Greek poet Homer, in his epic poem Odyssey, tells the story of Ulysses and his voyage along the Italian coasts. As he approached these waters, he encountered the Sirens, whose enchanting songs tried to lure sailors to their death. Warned by the sorceress Circe, Ulysses ordered his crew to block their ears with wax and had himself tied to the ship’s mast to resist the spell. Defeated and ignored, the Sirens perished, and according to legend one of them, Parthenope, was found on the island of Megaride, where today stands the Castel dell’Ovo. From this myth comes the ancient name of Naples, Partenope, closely linked to the city’s origins.

With over 3,000 years of history, Naples can be considered a true open-air museum, shaped by different civilizations and historical periods of splendor and decline. After challenging decades in the second half of the 20th century, the city is now experiencing a renewed sense of vitality, with its residents looking toward the future with growing confidence.

This Naples city tour explores three main areas of the city. The first part includes a drive along the seafront and up to Posillipo Hill, offering one of the most famous panoramic views of the Bay of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius and Capri Island in the background. Returning toward the city center, you will pass by the historic Castel dell’Ovo, the oldest surviving fortress in Naples, set within the charming seaside village of Borgo Marinari.

The second part features a short walk through the monumental district of Naples, home to some of the city’s most important landmarks, including Maschio Angioino, the San Carlo Opera House, the Royal Palace, Piazza del Plebiscito, Galleria Umberto I and the neoclassical Church of San Francesco di Paola.

The final part of the tour takes you into the historic center of Naples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along Spaccanapoli, the ancient Greek urban axis and vibrant heart of the city. This pedestrian area is filled with artisan workshops, cafés, street performers and traditional shops, offering a lively introduction to everyday Neapolitan life and access to churches, historic buildings and the underground city.

For those wishing to further enrich the experience, it is possible to add an optional street food tasting, featuring samples of typical Neapolitan specialties from local vendors. A flavorful way to explore the city through its traditional cuisine and authentic culinary heritage.
